There have been many studies done on fish oil and cholesterol over the years and the overwhelming result is that this natural wonder really can help, as long as you select carefully.
Can I use any fish oil to reduce cholesterol?
The short answer is no, not any oil will do!
There are so many available today and for the large part they offer limited benefits, let’s find out why.
The majority of the fish oils ability to lower cholesterol is based on their anti-inflammatory qualities. They are able to lower your bad or LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels and raise your good or HDL ones too.
This is why you need all three levels when you have a cholesterol test to see if you need any help. For example, although your LDL reading may be high, if your HDL is high too, then you may not need any help, especially from the over-prescribed statin drugs.
This is because simply put, your HDL fats mop up excess LDL ones to keep you healthy.
Fish oils are proven to lower triglyceride levels too (fats related to cholesterol), as a build-up of these can lead to blocked arteries and a premature heart attack. In fact, the American Heart Association recommends these oils daily to keep your cholesterol in check.
Taking daily oils can reduce your chances of sudden cardiac arrest by over 40%.
Quality oils also help to thin your blood slightly, lowering high blood pressure and preventing it becoming thick and leading to possible blockages.
The right oil
Omega 3 fatty acids and plenty of them are required to balance your cholesterol. The DHA fats are the most important as these are converted into an anti-inflammatory chemical called Resolvin D2.
Most oils have far more EPA fats which are important but nowhere near as useful.
In addition, the oil my family uses comes from the pristine land of New Zealand and the company blends pure hoki oil with tuna oil. Why am I telling you this?
The result is that this oil, in addition to being extremely pure, has over twice the anti-inflammatory benefits of any other oil. They are not quite sure why this happens when the two fish oils are combined, but the result is it can significantly improve your health and ward off many potentially fatal diseases.
We have a long history of high cholesterol in my family and by taking fish oils daily, I personally am able to keep my cholesterol at optimal levels.
As you can see, not any fish oil will do, but a quality one can naturally help to balance your cholesterol while providing many other important health benefits too.
