The Benefits of Krill Oil Supplements and How To Get The Maximum Health Rewards

Krill are shrimp-like crustaceans found mainly in the Southern Ocean and North Pacific Oceans, and are becoming more popular today as a good source of omega 3 fatty acids in the form of nutritional supplements.

Benefits of krill oil supplements

It is mainly due to the omega 3 fatty acids called DHA and EPA that provide the many health benefits which include:

There are more benefits but that is beyond the scope of this article!

These benefits of krill oil supplements are achievable if you take a pure one, although you would need to take many tablets each day.

The reason for this is that these krill oils are actually low in omega 3 fats, especially DHA. They tend to contain only 10-20% of the DHA of a quality fish oil. Many websites state that the omega 3 in krill is absorbed better and therefore they are more powerful, but there is no scientific evidence of this.

For example, I have tried krill oil and while it is beneficial, the pure fish oil I take today contains over eleven times more DHA and three times more EPA fatty acids, costs a lot less and does not damage the marine ecosystem.

Fish oil and not krill oil

What krill oil supplements do have more of than fish oil however is astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant that protects your health. However, a quality premium fish oil will have this added and in far higher quantities, so it pays to look around.

I mentioned the marine ecosystem because this worrying fad of krill is already taking its toll. These tiny crustaceans are being caught in huge numbers just so you can have the benefits of krill oil supplements.

They are the food of many species including whales and removing them can only harm the delicate balance. Fish oil is a by-product of the fish and even then only 10% of the oil is used for supplements so they have a zero impact on the ecosystem.

So there you have it, the benefits of krill oil supplements and how you can enjoy far greater benefits and the peace of mind that you are not harming the environment by selecting quality fish oil supplements instead.
