The latest fad of using krill oil supplements instead of the more traditional fish oils ones is becoming increasingly popular, but is this new kid on the block really better?
The truth is that while krill oil supplements are beneficial and a good source of omega 3 and antioxidants (not found in most fish oils), a quality fish oil provides far more benefits. Let’s look at this in more detail.
Although krill are a decent source of omega 3 fats, DHA and EPA, they are actually comparatively low in them, especially the DHA fats. These DHA fats are proven today to provide you with most of the benefits, especially the anti-inflammatory ones for your heart and brain.
For example, the premium fish oil supplements my family and I use contain more than ten times the amount of DHA fats than the leading brand of krill oil, three times more EPA fats and ten times more astaxanthin (antioxidants).
The point here is that the best fish oil is significantly better for you than the best krill oil.
With regards to the antioxidants, it is unusual for fish oil to contain it as it needs to be added. Krill contain small levels of astaxanthin naturally and the reason why they are preferred by some.
However, as you can see, by researching as you are now, you can find premium fish oils with far higher levels to really help boost your health and especially your skin, reversing the effects of aging and over exposure to the sun’s UV rays.
The one I use contains added astaxanthin (from algae) and lycopene (from tomato oil) and has been shown to increase skin density by 7%, increase skin thickness by 14%, decrease scaling of the skin by 60% and decrease skin roughness by 33%!

I also want to touch briefly on sustainability.
The fact is that fish oil is simply a by-product as it is caught for its flesh and in fact only 10% of the oil is used for supplements while the rest goes to industry and agriculture, resulting in zero harm to the marine ecosystem
In stark contrast, krill is purely hunted for its oil and this small shrimp-like crustacean is the food of many in the food chain, including the great whales.
Already, overfishing of krill is becoming a problem and could potentially threaten the delicate balance.
