Are Omega 3 Fish Oil Supplements as Good as Fresh Fish?

are omega 3 fish oil supplements as good as fish There has been a long debate running about fresh fish vs supplements, but with increasing pollution levels, there is only one clear winner, as long as you know what to look for.

Are omega 3 fish oil supplements as good as fish?

There are actually two problems with fresh fish today – increasing levels of toxicity and lack of omega 3.

This is the reason why a quality distilled fish oil supplement is much better than eating fresh fish if you want to get the maximum health benefits.

Toxins are stored in the flesh of the fish and these include mercury, lead, arsenic and PCB’s and these are often transferred to the supplements too.

As the levels of toxins are so high comparatively, you are only meant to eat one or maybe two portions a week and many people eat less than that. This means you are not able to get enough omega 3 fats and as a result over 90% of the population is lacking in them.

The other problem is that a lot of the fish today, especially salmon, is farm raised and fed on a diet of pellets and antibiotics and other drugs. Often, they are kept in cages and cannot even turn round and swim in their own faeces.

This results in you ingesting some of those drugs and due to the diet, they contain very little omega 3.

You can really improve and protect your health by taking a quality omega 3 supplement as this way you can control the amount you take and the purity.

To avoid ingesting those toxins, look for a molecularly distilled oil. This process removes the toxins and in fact the company I get mine from in New Zealand puts the oil through yet another purifying process that results in some of the purest oils in world, with no detectable levels of toxins at all.

Freshness is also important and you can test this for yourself by opening up a capsule and smelling the contents. You should not get a strong or pungent smell but a soft ocean aroma. If you do get a strong smell, it indicates a stale and rancid oil that offers little in the way of health benefits.

 DHA fats

The other great advantage of using supplements is that you can see exactly what you’re getting. For example, there are two main types of omega 3 fats, DHA and EPA. However, despite many websites telling you differently, all the recent studies show that DHA fats provide most of the health benefits.

DHA fats make up a large amount of the fats in the brain and are also the only ones to be converted into a powerful anti-inflammatory chemical that can help to reduce your risk of a premature death from disease.

So, now you know the answer to, “are omega 3 fish oil supplements as good as fish,” and can now navigate your way to the purest and most effective oils to protect your present health and future well-being too.

My family personally uses fish oils from a company called Xtend-Life based in New Zealand because we know they are some of the purest in the world and therefore present no dangers to us, and especially our young children.

They employ stringent quality controls, far exceeding the US FDA regulations, and skillfully blend pure NZ hoki oil with distilled South Pacific Tuna oil to release the maximum health benefits possible.
